Bio
.. Xanadu on ..facebook....... Xanadu formed in the late Spring of 2009, bringing together established artists Kat Drake (singer/songwriter/guitarist) and Kayvan Walker (guitarist/bassist/drummer), who together have played the main stage at the Sunrise Festival 2006, also featured on BBC Radio Bristol and the young multi-instrumentalist Josh Barley (guitar/cello/piano). .... Kat has a strong grounding in folk - including a number of gigs at Glastonbury and other festivals on the Lost Horizon Cabaret Stage, appearances on various fundraising compilations ("Hold my Love" is first track on a compilation that includes the likes of Martha Tilston). She also sings an array of other material from jazz to soul to pop, highlights of which include producing a jazz album (www.myspace.com/kittydrake) and recording solo material with producer Stevan Krakovic of Tom Mansi & the Icebreakers (www.myspace.com/katdrake). .... The band's influences are unashamedly broad (including Feist, Stevie Wonder, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Belle & Sebastian as well as classical music), giving Xanadu the breadth and depth to play music that crosses genres and mixes moods, but still keeps its soul and cohesion. .... The band met in Cambridgeshire and have rapidly joined the gigging circuit in Oxford and London (where they are based), and are already starting to get positive reviews: - .... "..A London based singer songwriter in her early twenties who makes regular performances across London. Kat’s beautiful ethereal voice shines on this ‘classical folk’ track [Hold My Love]. She is influenced by, amongst others, Eva Cassidy, Portishead and Joan Baez. But we think she has a style all of her own..." .... ..- www.embercombe.co.uk/music, a compilation album promoting leadership in sustainable development, Jan 09.. .... "..a wonderful performance from Kat [Drake] ably accompanied by the very fine bass playing of Kayvan Walker [.] Kat's music is rooted in traditional English folk music and her vocal style is reminiscent of Eva Cassidy with a hint of Joni Mitchell. She played five songs [...] complete with audience participation!.." .... ..- The Icarus Club, Feb 09.. .... The line-up is completed with Matt on the drums and occasional flourishes on the trumpet by the genious that is Felix Barnes. .... TheRoadToXanadu@googlemail.com -
