......BLACKHEATH HALLS 2010........ ...... ....The fantastic ..DARRELL SCOTT.. headlined the first of our 2010 Blackheath Halls shows on Friday 22nd January, supported by Louise Latham and Still. As well as displaying complete mastery of the guitar, Darrell treated us to whole series of piano-based material on the house Bosendorfer which was spellbinding ! A magical night that will live long in the memory. .... ...... ....We followed this in April with the LSOUND REVIEW featuring Beaj Johnson, Sarah Toone, Jason James, Teddy Bazz, Jack O'Brien, Jason James, Ben Butler and Still in a local indie labelmates' extravaganza. Another wonderful night with a packed house and a whole host of outstanding tunes !.... ..........BENNY GALLAGHER headlined our May show, supported by Janette Geri, Jim Byrne and Richard Llewellyn-Davies. A welcome return to Benny who played a wonderful set for us back in June of last year and once again he gave us a masterclass in the art of songwriting, drawing on his extensive back catalogue as well as newer material, every bit as inspiring as his classics such as "Breakaway", "Heart Of New York" and "Heart On My Sleeve"..... ......Greg McDonald, Russell Joslin, Rachel Dawick and Son Of Kirk provided the line up for our June show, four outstanding up-and-coming acts all of whom have appeared at our weekly shows. A brilliant night despite clashing with some major sporting event or other !.... ....UPCOMING SHOWS...... ....Friday 23rd July........ ..........THE GRIGORYAN BROTHERS. We're delighted to be presenting the much-celebrated Australian guitar duo, The Grigoryan Brothers in a special concert. Since their first acclaimed Australian tour in 2002, Slava and Leonard have astounded audiences worldwide with their guitar virtuosity. Although regarded as Australia’s finest guitar duo performing much of the instrument’s standard classical repertoire, their passion is to expand their horizons through new arrangements, their own compositions and commissions. This ambition can be heard as the brothers take the guitar into genres such as Latin, jazz, folk and contemporary music......... ....‘… guitar playing of uncommon originality and authority. Musicality, expressivity and daring … a singular talent’. .. ..The New York Times..... Tickets below:................ ....Friday 17th September........ .......... GARETH DAVIES-JONES headlines our September show. Gareth has played at the Icarus club a couple of times before and makes a welcome return. His last album "Water And Light" garnered a whole host of rave reviews, including none other than Bob Harris (..“Very beautiful music……I can thoroughly recommend this album ”)... Supporting Gareth will be Martyna, Maria Day and The Carl Picton Cartel. More details on the ....Blackheath Halls.... website....... ....Friday 15th October........ ..........JOHN SMITH will be featured at our October show. He's quietly becoming recognised as one of the most exciting voices on the British Folk scene. He has spent several years solidly on the road, touring with John Martyn and accompanying Davy Graham on his final tour. He has also supported John Renbourn, David Gray, Martin Carthy, Jools Holland, Tunng and Tinariwen and has shared the stage with Cara Dillon, James Yorkston, Martin Simpson and Ben Ottewell. Full details to follow....... ....Friday 19th November........ ..........Our final show of 2010 will be headlined by JENNIFER CROOK. Jennifer recently performed with Snow Patrol throughout their "Reworked" winter tour, and has been a stage guest for artists like Eddi Reader, Boo Hewerdine and Mercury prize winner Susheela Raman. Her trademark harp playing has been featured on many CD's including albums on the RealWorld label by Susanna Baca and Joji Hirota, and the soundtrack for BBC 1's David Attenborough series 'The Private Life of Plants'. Jennifer will be appearing with her band The Hawthorns, and will be supported by the ever-popular John Aldington who has been a regular favourite at the Icarus Club over the past year. Full details to follow..... _____________________________________________________________.... ....BLACKHEATH HALLS VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS 2009........ The Blackheath Halls dates in April, May and June were a fabulous success. One of the many highlights was the very wonderful ......BENNY GALLAGHER......, who headlined our third and final show, performing "Would The Last One Leaving New York Town Please Turn The Lights Down". Benny is of course one half of the legendary duo Gallagher & Lyle and was previously a member of McGuinness Flint. He’s been one of the UK’s foremost singer/songwriters for the best part of four decades and his live performances continue to delight audiences wherever he plays. We're thrilled that Benny has agreed to return to headline our 21st May show. ...... .. .. .. .. .. ...... The video was shot by ....Henry D.C. Williams...., an excellent independent film maker from SE London who has taken a bit of a shine to the Icarus Club ! We're delighted that, when he's not working on documentaries, features and music vids, he comes and films the acts at the weekly shows at the Station Hotel as well as the ones he shot at Blackheath. For more of his work, go to his ....Youtube Channel...., and his website, ....http://www.hdcw.co.uk..... ....Keep checking the blog section for video highlights of our weekly shows at the Station Hotel....._____________________________________________________________.... ....2009 ROLLCALL !!........
