PTH Biography
The Part Time Heroes are two undisclosed young musicians currently residing in the leafy suburbs of Southampton. Although their names are not known to the masses, their music soon will be, as this part-time shop assistant and part-time sandwich deliveryman, plan to convert their part-time music careers into full-time employment.
Both heroes have a deep history in a variety of genres, sharing influences from Miles Davis to John Martyn to The Clash, and both now share the same landlord. For various reasons the duo found themselves sharing a flat together at the turn of 2005 and after many late night conversations, lengthy musical debates and story-telling sessions, the duo that had now become good friends decided it was only right to combine their two studios. The short move from each others respected bedrooms to the lounge took place and a new production partnership was born. It was quick, natural and felt right and the next ten months have taken them to the brink of breaking through.
Having drawn comparisons to Portishead, St.Germain and even Groove Armada, there is no question that the Heroes debut album (soon to arrive) is an exciting, eclectic and fresh journey over different tempos, incorporating live instrumentation, deep jazz roots and organic soul nourishing goodness.
April 2005 saw the duo invite a selection of close friends/local accomplished musicians to their front room to bring that live touch to their recordings. Live drums, flute, keys, double bass and horn section were thrown into the mix and over the coming months vocalists including new-comers Jono McCleery, Lucy Kitchen and Laura Vane would drop by to indulge in late night song writing sessions and recording.
Having held their music down, working away juggling day jobs, they've managed to remix the likes of Wallis Bird (Island/Universal) Monday Michiru (ArtistShare) Citizen Cope (Wah Wah), Fried (RCA), Jamie Finlay (Wah Wah), Baker Brothers, Up Hygh (Tru Thoughts), MJ Cole (Prolific) and Instrumental (Big Chill Recordings). The Double award winning BBC Jazz Artist of The Year 2005 Liane Carroll has also contributed her jaw dropping vocals to their recordings and Radio 1s worldwide tastemaker Gilles Peterson who's heavily supported them on his show, recently described them as a "Jazzier Zero 7" and went on to say "I highly rate them, watch out for them".
The dynamite duo also release 'slightly more dancefloor aimed' music under their 'PTH PROJECTS' alias. Their debut 12" 'Pretend Paradise' feat. Liane Carroll and 'Thin Air' feat. Laura Vane... released on Wah Wah 45s Records back in May 2006 SOLD OUT IN 2 WEEKS, and in Feb 2007 they dropped their own 'Pretend Paradise' remix and 'What The Sun Brings' 12" on Wah Wah 45's.
Back under their Part Time Heroes name, they've licensed their' All This Time' track to the 'Tranquil' compilation on Azuli Records, released their 'Sound System' mix CD on Addict Clothing's 'ABC' imprint and have just completed their debut untitled LP featuring guests vocals from Pete Simpson (Elektrons), Laura Vane (Tru Thoughts/MJ Cole) Jono McCleery, Liane Carroll and Bridgette Amofah. News on release dates and singles coming soon!
With eclectic DJ sets and an exciting live show, things are looking up for our part-time shop boy and sandwich deliveryman. Having performed live on the main stage at this year's BIG CHILL festival, rocked London's Cargo and YoYo, Jazz Cafe and KoKo venue's with their 7 piece band, they’ve also DJ'd at selected spots in Leeds, Brighton, Bristol and further a field in Slovenia and Sweden. In addition to this they've had mixes broadcast on Kiss 101, Ibiza Global Radio, Sonar Radio and recently turned out a superb BBC Maida Vale live session on Gilles 'Worldwide show', earning them TWO nominations at the 2006 GP Worldwide Awards.
Current fans and supporters include Gilles Peterson, Zane Lowe, Benji B, Mr. Scruff, Ras Kwame (1Xtra), Nightmares On Wax, The Unabomber’s, Patrick Forge, Michael Stukes (NYC), Michael Ruetten (Compost), Kev Beadle and top taste-maker DJ Junior (Philly, USA). With recent rotation on Radio 1, 1Xtra, Kiss 101, Kiss 100, Smooth FM and XFM... if the music's anything to go by then maybe their days of BLTs and cheese and tomato rolls could be numbered. All I know is after hearing their music and meeting them in person these Heroes won’t stop till their work is done.

"Larry and I would blow up balloons, set up the food bar, prepare the punch, and give out acid, but we also spent a lot of time in the DJ booth, watching Nicky's every move. He pretty much taught us what he was doing". says Frankie Knuckles We're doing another Love Fever Party on November 7th... This time we've got NYC Legend Nicky Siano over for a proper disco session.
