Elegant, beautiful and heartfelt. So glad I found your music, just as I thought there was no hope for the music industry. Oh how wrong I was. Thank you for gracing us with your music..

1st time I saw you it was 2007 perhaps, at St Barnabas (Soho) in this tiny chapel. I was mesmerized. I heard one of your song on tv today. It was an add for the Olympics. Love what you do.

  • Bio

The Irrepressibles play in the wasteland of our post-modern capitalist cultural burnout, playing with the embers, crying for their ruin, and making new inventions. . . Their name is a call to arms. They want to be part of taking us forward, they want a freedom. . . . . . they believe we need it now. They do not pretend to understand you, they are only instinctive. They also do not want to play tired old games, so they get angry and break the old games and make up new ones. Their noise is an ever-evolving soundscape of texture, liberated emotion and play. From the abrasive to the pretty, they have no prejudice, as they have little concern for others' definitions. Some say they make their own path . . . . . . Listen? J G McDermott, 2002 In the last eight years since their early beginnings THE IRREPRESSIBLES have fundamentally carved a new frontier in pop with their influence seen on much of today's music scene. Iconoclastically fusing classical orchestration, grunge rock, kitsch, exotica, electronica, sound art, jazz, samba, folk and much much more into a heady and heavily emotional style of music that is created instinctively, playfully and cathartically by McDermott. Initially critics and music industry couldn't understand what it was with the collective embraced only by the art and fashion world - but with their eventual influence on more mainstream artists they were eventually able to find support and see the release of their debut album Mirror Mirror and forthcoming album Nude throughout the world. Using conceptual sets, none-theatrical lighting, projection, dance, and couture fashion the collective bring this music to life in what McDermott calls his 'performance objects' or 'live spectacles'. These have been commissioned for many of Europe's leading festivals and institutions including "Rocco a go go" Hackney Empire 2006, "Paint and Paper" BGWMC 2006, "Human Music Box" for the V&A Museum. London in 2009 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwxWGdKNJw0), "Mirror Mirror" for Queen Elizabeth Hall, 2010 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7XpatbK6FU) / paris quartier d'été, France 2010 / Barbican Hall, London 2011 and extensive touring. "AIR" for Vie Festival, Italy 2010, "Human Music Box II" for the Holland Festival, Holland, 2011, "Human Zoetrope" for Sexto and Festival, Italy plus many more shows across Europe. More recently The Irrepressibles have launched their new audio visual work "NUDE" premiered for Cite de La Musique, Paris in 2011 with many other forthcoming across Europe, USA and Australia to be announced...
