  • Bio

.. Trouvere got together in 1998. We're a band of musicians sharing a common interest in medieval music and entertainment. We perform on a wide variety of medieval instruments and also often include storytelling and jesting as part of our live performance... The lineup of Trouvere changes from show to show, but the usual suspects are .. Clare Little (vielle, rebec, recorder, harp, bagpipe and voice) Mike Beeke (bagpipe, percussion and recorder) Dan Osbaldeston (recorder, three hole pipe, percussion and voice) Gill Page (harp, psaltery, percussion and voice) and Paul Leigh (citole, flute, lute, percussion, bagpipe and recorder)... Our music is usually 'authentic' in style, though we are quite happy to mix in modern sounds as well on particular projects. Our latest CD 'Music for a Medieval Feast' was released on 27 November 2007. This CD is a lively mix of mostly instrumental music and we have uploaded some music from the CD on to Myspace. .. In 2006 we produced a CD called 'Novela'. This CD is a blending of medieval melody and modern harmonies and rhythms to create a new sound. Music from this CD can be downloaded by going to 'Paul Leigh' (one of our myspace friends listed below). .. Other CDs by Trouvere including 'Douce Dame Jolie' and 'Por mon Corage' are also available through our website - www.medievalminstrels.com. This site is full of downloadable soundfiles, photos and information about up and coming shows... We are working on two other projects at the moment. 'Music for a Tudor Feast' will feature songs and music from the 16th century, mostly English music but with a healthy smattering of continental peices. 'Sunne in Splendour' will be a CD focusing on the music of the 15th century, from the time of Henry VI, Edward IV and the last of the medieval kings Richard III. .. We also do a fair amount of educational work - particularly with primary schools studying Tudors. We have a website packed with resources and useful info for schools: www.trouvere.co.uk ..

  • Influences

Our favourite medieval bands include Joglaresa, Micrologus and Alla Francesca. We like to go back to the original sources as much as possible, and most of these were produced in courtly or religious contexts. So we like to hear and to reproduce the gentler sounds as well as the livelier dance music of the period.
