"I never expected to find this Ethiopian music gem hidden away in London. Krar Collective manage to achieve the right balance between the rawness of their roots and the subtleties of their innovative spirit. Precise without being too academic, funky without being too loose. I was really impressed." ANDY MORGAN, former manager of Tinariwen. Krar is the Ethiopian 5 or 6 stringed harp. KRAR COLLECTIVE are led by Temesegen Tareken, a former pupil of veteran Ethiopian vibraphone player Mulatu Astatke, on Krar, with drums, and singer Genet Asefa. They are sometimes joined by other musicians, singers and full dance show with 4 dancers. The band developed through Genna Ethiopian Arts and Theatre (GEATA) and has performed regularly at Celebrating Sanctuary festival as well as at other festivals and venues in the UK. KRAR COLLECTIVE bring you dynamic roots music from different parts of Ethiopia and different traditions with a contemporary edge. "Krar Collective were sensational" JILL TURNER, Gondwana Sound Don't expect to sit still at a Krar Collective gig! This is music to take you to a different place, to move your soul and rock you with hypnotic rhythms. This vibrant and energetic act had attracted a huge crowd and within a minute we knew why. Colourful and soulful the strong sounds just grabbed you and didn't let go; Ethiopia has a real gem in the passionate Geata Krar Collective and the sound sweetly and seductively filled the Wiltshire countryside transporting us all to different climes for the duration of the set, impossible to stand still, impossible to feel down, mesmerizing."

About

“one of the most rousing, reliable new African bands of the year” The Guardian

"I never expected to find this Ethiopian music gem hidden away in London. Precise without being too academic, funky without being too loose. I was really impressed." ANDY MORGAN, former manager of Tinariwen.

“This London-based Ethiopian three-piece, centred on the traditional krar harp, were one of the grooviest and most hypnotic bands at Damon Albarn's recent Africa Express bonanza. Expect an ultra-repetitive funky dance marathon.” Time Out

“Krar Collective rock!” fRoots magazine

"They may use ancient instruments, but there’s nothing arcane about the way that they play them. This is hot ‘n’ hypnotic dance music." fRoots Magazine
