Happy Belated New Year to All!.... I want to thank everyone, again, for all the wonderful thoughts and messages you send. I am deeply appreciative of them..... Looking back on 2009, it was a great year creatively. I had a great time making and putting out 'Music We Are' (CD & LP) on my Golden Beams label, with John Patitucci and Danilo Perez. Some great music was made with great people, like Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock, John Surman, Pat Metheny, Larry Grenadier, David Sancious, Roberto Quintero, Savion Glover, John Abercrombie, Dimi Mint Abba (from Mauritania), Ripple Effect (John and Ben Surman, Jerome Harris and Marlui Miranda), just to name a few... I am always grateful to everyone that I have the honor to play with. I also did a project at The Cheltenham Festival with some young UK musicians, who were amazing; and did a residency at Berklee School of Music. It's always inspiring to work with young creative beings and see who is coming next!.... Speaking of what's coming next, I started the New Year with my newest project, The Jack DeJohnette Group, with Jerome Harris, David Fiucyznski, George Colligan and Rudresh Mahanthappa. This is the group I am going to be focusing on for the next few years along with working with Keith Jarrett and other special projects that I still enjoy. I am also recording quite a bit this year on my own and with others, so it seems to be an equally creative time coming up for me..... As always, I have not lost my enthusiasm and passion for great creativity, it still feels like it did when I first started out….in awe of all the possibilities that are always there..... There are still major upheavals all over the planet, but I feel, with the right intention, we can move away from polarity, and like the music, give ourselves over to the highest purpose of creativity so that we can come together. I know this sounds simple, and I am not just referring to music, but all life everywhere. I feel that divisive tactics are used to emphasize our differences, when in fact, we have more in common than we have differences; nowhere is that more apparent than in music, and if we honor that, we would embrace our diversity and come together to work for a more peaceful co-existence for all beings..... I wish everyone the very best of all that life has to offer..... Peace,.. JDJ.. March 2010 .... For more information, please visit ..www.jackdejohnette.com...
