David Franks: Walkabouts Verse

3 Jun 2009 18:39

(Hi: enjoyed my visit.)

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN

Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.

I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.

I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”

Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

this morning i set out on my K-Tel Unicycle to a meeting of the Prestwood Holdall Enthusiasts Society. sadly i took a wrong turning and ended up in the bin. does anyone have the exact location of the society meeting as i have left my own map in a container near an active volcano and am loathe to return to said place area.

i am currently on route to Cheadlehumeshire and have awfully noshed the flask of chips, leaving one pure fish finger to last the rest of this epic 'journeytrip.' carefully noting down the amount of flags at a nearby castle, i have pulled in at a service station despite being on foot.
John Dredge

30 Dec 2008 11:50

with michelmas over i gathered my holdalls around me this morning and set out for my birthplace, Cheadlehumeshire, just off the banks of the Rhyne, in order to acquire knowledge of the olden days. i am taking with me only a flask of chips and a fish finger for sustenance. the journey may seem arduous at this early stage, but in my view both figs and wigwams may prove irrelevant in the coming weeks.

dont forget to tune in to bbc three counties radio today 5pm for my specially weird Christmas report on the ian hawkins show on the wireless contraption that you keep in your house.

i am being silly on bbc three counties radio this monday on ian hawkins show. tune in for silly things.

with wigwams and holdalls just around the corner, may i wish you a splendid yuletide thing. have a xmas pudding on me. or near me, which would be less awkward to arrange. long live Santa Claus and his molluscs which it has to be said are not a good replacement for reindeer at this time of credit crunching, but when all is said and done, in this day and age.
John Dredge

23 Dec 2008 08:19

as we near michelmas i see the fishcakes are in full bloom. stopping to pick one from the local fish allotment centre today, i was surprised to find the Port of London Authority lying in wait. apparently they had issues with some of my unpaid Port of London Authority bills which i received after sailing a boat made of artichokes down the Thames in order to prove something to the local artichoke sellers of the town. after throwing a bin at the Authority i made good my escape.

22 Dec 2008 08:13

today i saw a gannet.
do any other readers have similar gannet viewing experiences?
John Dredge

21 Dec 2008 10:08

on inspecting my allotment this morning i realised that several holdalls needed watering. i beamed over to the garden centre using my new teleportation unit, and was able to purchase not only a watering can of high repute, but also a chipfork plant for my local fishmonger.
John Dredge

20 Dec 2008 11:59

this morning after wedlock i took a stroll round the bay, observing both limpets and whelks with my new contraption. challenged by the Port of London Authority who were hiding in a nearby skip, i quickly brandished a loom-tin which resolved the conflict forthwith.
