An unusual addition to the UK Jazz scene, Zing have brought their brand of Jewish Jazz and Yiddish Swing to Leeds Jewish International Festival in July 2008, Cambridge and Newcastle as well as various Jazz venues around London. Zing has also appeared at private parties and charity events.
Zing performs songs from the early Jazz songsters from Tin Pan Alley including Gershwin, Berlin, Kern, Hammerstein, Hart and Cahn, to the Yiddish swing era of the 1940s, to more modern Jewish composers such as Bernstein and Sondheim.
Zing has also developed a range of repertoires which can be tailored to suit any kind of party, function, Wedding, Barmitzvah or concert setting. As well as our Jewish Jazz and Yiddish Swing set, we can perform:
* an evening of Irving Berlin numbers, songs from World War II for an uplifting 1940s themed evening or event
* a dinner jazz set featuring songs performed by all the great singers from Ella Fitzgerald to Anita O'Day and Billy Holiday to Nina Simone
* a racy swing set to get your party sizzling and everyone up jitterbuging or Lindyhopping!
* a mix of everything for a more varied programme.
With Laoise’s atmospheric voice recalling the Jazz singers of the 1920s, 30s and 40s while adding a modern twist, Bruce Boardman’s inventive, intelligent piano lead and accompaniment, and strong Bass from Ruth Bitelli or Paul Tkachenko, Zing will not just entertain you, but will make you reconsider the whole world of 20th Century Jazz from a Jewish perspective.
