In 2009, Jay-Z featured J.Cole, his first Roc Nation signee on the song “A Star is Born” on his highly anticipated Blueprint 3 album. The song paid homage to influential rappers including Lil Wayne, Diddy, Snoop Dogg, T.I., Outkast, etc. that ended with a verse from the new star. In the video below, Cole discusses how he hopes that in a few years, the honor of being on the song is reflected with success similar to his peers, to solidify the credibility that Hova predicted for him. The two met after J.Cole stood outside his office for 3 hours to give him a CD, at the time he was working as a bill collector that recently graduated magna cum lade with a degree in communication and minor in business from St. John’s University in New York.
