Mastodon will release their new album, The Hunter, on September 27 via Warner Bros. The record, a follow-up to 2009’s Crack the Skye, is a “jump-on-your-bed, get naked, and go streaking kind of record,” according to frontman Brent Hinds. The singer recently told SPIN.com, “I haven’t had this feeling about a Mastodon record since [2004's] Leviathan. It’s just fucking awesome.”

Mastodon have revealed a few more details on their upcoming album — including the disc’s title. The record, which will be called The Hunter, doesn’t yet have a released date but the band are finishing the recording process.
    .
The Atlanta metal group have also announced several song titles from the record — which are pretty amazing. These include: “Blasteroids,” “Stargasm,” “The Octopus Has No Friends” and “Curl of the Burl.” Mastodon have been recording the album at Doppler Studios in Atlanta with producer Mike Elizondo and from the sound of things it will be a decidedly different album.
    .
Guitarist Brent Hinds told Rolling Stone, “It sounds pretty different than anything we’ve ever done. It’s un-comparable!” He also told SPIN.com, “Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye— those albums took too long to make. This only took us a couple weeks to record and there’s a totally different feeling to it. It’s a jump-on-your-bed, get naked, and go streaking kind of record. I haven’t had this feeling about a Mastodon record since [2004's] Leviathan. It’s just fucking awesome.”

The phrase “supergroup” gets thrown around a lot these days, but finally here’s one that we can get behind. Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds recently announced that he’s working on a new project with Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman, former Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen and original Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery.
    .
Unfortunately, the group hasn’t had much time yet to get together due to the fact that they all live in different parts of the country and have extremely busy schedules. “We tried to get together and do an album, but there’s been no time,” Hinds recently told Noisecreep. “We want to record crazy stuff and Ben is working on that, but it’s been hard to get together.”

Mastodon have revealed that they are currently in the studio working on their next album. The group is recording their follow-up to 2009’s Crack The Skye with producer Mike Elizondo in Doppler Studios in Atlanta and have already laid down drum tracks in in Los Angeles at Sound City Studios.
    .
Mastodon have confirmed two tracks that will appear on the forthcoming record, which has yet to receive a title and release date. Two new original numbers, “Blasteroids” and “All The Heavy Lifting,” will be included in the tracklisting. Guitarist Brent Hinds recently spoke to SPIN about the record, saying, “This only took us a couple weeks to record and there’s a totally different feeling to it. It’s a jump-on-your-bed, get naked, and go streaking kind of record. I haven’t had this feeling about a Mastodon record since [2004's] Leviathan. It’s just fucking awesome. We’ve got a song about fighting, there’s a song about lifting heavy stuff, there’s a song about people on meth creeping around in trees trying to get the best wood grain out of a tree to sell it at Lowe’s for [drug] money… The album is kind of silly. We’re taking the piss out of things.”
