  • 'Brave' Conquers 'Lincoln' - What This Weekend's Box Office Says About Us

SHE DID IT! Like Katniss Everdeen and Snow White before her, Brave’s Merida proved a formidable box office draw herself. Pixar’s one millionth er… 13th hit in a row, Brave took in $66.7 million, laying waste to all that stood in its path, most notably the weekend’s other big opening Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which flopped into third place with $16.5 million. Sandwiched in between them is this year’s bona fide hit Madagascar 3, which I still keep forgetting exists until Monday morning.

You may have noticed a movie out in theaters today with one of the most ridiculous concepts you’ll ever stumble across. I’m talking, of course, about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the action period piece that reimagines our 16th President as an ass-kicking, ax-wielding beheader of the undead. Well it looks like Freddiew Gamez wasn’t content with there only being a movie and a book out there in the world, so they created a 16-bit game that recreates a few key moments in the movie, with pretty hilarious results. Old school gamers will definitely get a kick out of this one. Check it out!

Abraham Lincoln was the most badass President in the history of the United States. No, we’re not talking about freeing the slaves here (although that was definitely badass in its own right), we’re talking about his secret life as an axe-wielding hunter of the undead.
    .
We recently sat down with the cast and of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, including producer Tim Burton, Benjamin Walker, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rufus Sewell, director Timur Bekmambetov, and writer Seth Grahame-Smith. So if you’re keeping tabs, we essentially interviewed everyone short of Abraham Lincoln himself. Among the topics we discussed were Benjamin Franklin as the possible creator of Frankenstein, how current President Barack Obama would fare as a vampire hunter, and Benjamin Walker’s love affair with Muffaletta.

I couldn’t help but laugh the first time I saw the trailer for this weekend’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  That said, the fact that it stars Benjamin Walker is alone enough reason to believe the film is no joke.  Benjamin’s been on the scene for just a few short years, and yet he’s already made a name for himself as an actor, performer, and comedian.  Few would turn down starring in roles in blockbuster franchise films while still in the infancy of their careers, and yet that’s just what Benjamin did just two years ago.  It’s not hard, then, to imagine him as the next great A-list actor, particularly since he’s recently married into Hollywood royalty.  Let’s take a closer look at his career trajectory, shall we?

We’re assuming you probably knew that Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves (if you didn’t, you should, um pick up a history book. Like right now). And thanks to some slick marketing efforts, you probably now know that he was a fairly skilled vampire assassin as well. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens next week, and two new clips feature the 16th President gettin’ all kinds of nasty with an axe.
