• On The Rise: OMG Girlz

If you think you know what “OMG” stands for, think again. In the case of up-and-coming girl group OMG Girlz, the term represents Officially Miss Guided, which is how we’d describe you if you don’t get on board with the band’s music.
    .

The three-piece group was formed back in 2009 by songwriter Tameka “Tiny” Harris, and is now comprised of Zonnique “Miss Star” Pullins, Bahja “Miss Beauty” Rodriguez and Breaunna “Miss Baby Doll” Womack. The band’s first single “Ain’t Nobody” came out in 2009, with Reginae “Baby Carter” Carter (Lil Wayne’s daughter) in the mix at the time. OMG Girlz has since released numerous singles, all leading up to the group’s upcoming debut album Officially Miss Guided, which will come out via Interscope/Streamline Records.
    .

So far, the group has been aimed at the teen market, described as “put together, the powerful female energy of The OMG GIRLZ makes for a magical dynamic that’s reminiscent of iconic girl groups like TLC, The Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child.” However, the trio has recently appeared on BET and was acclaimed by Lady Gaga, who tweeted she is “obsessed with these little cuties.”

    .

The band’s debut album will be out October 2, but meanwhile they’ve released a new video for their single “Where the Boys At?” Beauty recently told MTV News of the group’s goals, “A lot of girls who are young, at an impressionable age, see all of these women on TV that are fighting and arguing and they see women who are just taking care of basketball players, and they think that’s realistic. Our message to them is just to be independent. We just want to tell them that that’s not realistic, that’s not life. You can go and do stuff on your own and girls can be friends and they can help each other no matter what.”
