On the heels of her arrest for DUI last Friday, her father is coming to the defense of his daughter … calling her a “good girl” who doesn’t even drink. She was, according to him, not even drunk the night of her arrest.

“She was not drunk,”Rick Bynes tells PEOPLE. “I was told that she blew a zero on the Breathalyzer. She didn’t have a single drink that night. My daughter doesn’t drink.”

Mr. Byrnes claims the cop who pulled her over was at fault for cutting off the 26-year-old actress … which resulted in Amanda crashing into his police car.

He adamantly says his daughter was not impaired, explaining that she was arrested because “she was upset and very emotional.”
.
“She is a good girl,” he said. “She just chooses not to work, and because of that, people go after her.”

TMZ is telling a different side of the story altogether — saying that Amanda imbibes … and imbibes a lot. In fact, they claim just weeks before her DUI arrest, she was videotaped stumbling drunkenly out of a club.

On March 22, the site reports, she appeared so wasted on her way out Greystone Manor in West Hollywood, she needed two friends to hold her upright so she could get to her car.
.
Thankfully … she played it safe and didn’t drive that night.
.
But on March 17, a seemingly inebriated Amanda didn’t play it safe at all. TMZ obtained video of the actress stumbling again out of Greystone Manor … then getting behind the wheel of her car and driving away, despite pleas from a photographer to let a sober person drive instead.
