The holloway had burnt down. feeling unsafe and betrayed by local health and safety by-laws, local men were looking for a place of togetherness and peace. fi fi and mi mi met at argos on the corner of holloway road and isledon road. mi mi was flicking through the shelving section of the catalogue when fi fi struck up a conversation about the flimsiness of the cd storage unit he had recently assembled. g g waltzed in with his fragrant south-west air, and weighed in with some tips on DIY. the rest happens at the local arts centre, a safe and inclusive environment. .. .. Romances", the 3rd full length release by Tough Troubles, is an album of love songs. It is a free digital download. Due to complicated geographical and life circumstances, the piece took us 12 months to complete, much longer than we had at first hoped for, a fact as annoying to us as it is inconsequential to you, our imaginary public. On this recording, we are as before - Fi Fi, G G and Mi Mi. The base material was recorded equally in various sunrooms and studies in West Sydney and SW London, and our spiritual home, a safe and inclusive community centre in Holloway (contact us for attractive function room rates). Some, we fancy, might note the celebration of the Poverty of Spirit (sometimes referred to as "Life & Style" or "First Tuesday Book Club" or "coffee culture") in contemporary Australia, and maybe even a sarcastic rebuke to the pathetic vacuity of inner city youth culture, as new dimensions in the TT sound. We would suggest it's just overzealous multitracking made possible by the new and improved wholly digital fitout in Fi Fi's study.
Finally, this release was originally slated for release as a cassette, NGL014, before Brendon Annesley's untimely death and the end of Negative Guest List zine and label. He was working on this release, alongside the myriad other things he tirelessly set himself to, we imagine, in the weeks preceding his death. We are thankful to him for being a champion of our work both as Eagle Boys and with Tough Troubles, and for being an honest, energetic and forthright individual in our dealings with him. It is a sad loss, and our deepest condolences go to those who knew him well and his family, who are most affected by such a tragically early loss of life
