| About Acushla |
ACUSHLA met and were formed out of the Traditional Irish Music sessions in Nottingham and other parts of the East Midlands. They have all played in a variety of bands in the past and they bring their expertise and commitment to this new group.
They play music from all parts of the Celtic world and songs from traditional and contemporary sources.
Listen to music played with good taste and energy!
“Acushla”, deriving from the Gaelic word “acuisle” meaning “heartbeat”, is an appropriate name for these musicians based in the Nottingham area playing music from the Celtic world and beyond.
The band grew out of the lively Irish sessions in Nottingham and we are now talking our music further afield.
Jigs and reels, songs and airs, traditional, contemporary, original and renovated – the full gamut of material is on offer, and whether it is a touching ballad or a rollicking set of dance tunes we are the band to do the business!
The instrumentation reflects this mixture with box, banjo, fiddle and mandolin being backed by guitar and bass, and songs that rely on soulful interpretation and rich harmony.
Pub gigs, folk clubs, parties, weddings – concerts and ceilidhs – all sizes and types of venue, we carry our own PA and sound engineer to get everything just right for your event.
