  • Bio

i am a soundartist from kristiansand, norway. operating in the field of experimental music; acoustic, electroacoustic & electronic. working with simple tools, my project - so far - has been to make & collect sounds in my house and the immediate local environment. i use contactmicrophones, digital recorder & other cheap microphones. found objects are also important parts in my sound-compositions, that be a scrap toy car, floorlamp, dried leaves or a piece of wood. i also use instruments like 4 & 12 string bass guitars, 3 stringed acoustic guitar, flutes & a mouth organ coming from an accordion. often the compositions - or the soundpictures - are a study of one object, worked with in a software-editor. the compositions often comes to life through improvisations - deconstructed & reworked. i have released some cdr-s and works through the internet - alone, and in collaboration with others. i have also participated on several compilations. i do also work under the moniker "three strings" [3s], http://www.myspace.com/3strings

TERJE PAULSEN - COASTLINE (CDR by Mystery Sea) Earlier this year I reviewed 'Horisont' by Terje Paulsen, from Norway, and I called him the new kid on the block, following a string of releases on labels Homophoni, TecnoNucleo, Q-tone, Resting Bell, Rain Music, Con-V and here again he returns to Mystery Sea, with a sequel to 'Horisont'. I believed he was a guitar player, but with these two releases it seems as if he is more a man of field recordings. I might still be very wrong with that. Its very much along the lines of 'Horisont', with obscured metal rumble going on, lots and lots of sound effects, bringing this work quite up front. Not a work of carefully constructed microsound, but with some heavy undercurrents of water dripping, boats bumping into the harbor and all that usual imagery that comes with the territory in the Mystery Sea world. But Paulsen does a fine job, by adding some elements from the world of improvised music to it, clanging his metal (strings of a guitar?) here and there, while keeping the almighty drone going. That's something a lot of peers wouldn't allow themselves to do. In that respect this is something of a change. Not a sea change, but an interesting ripple. Nice one. (FdW) Address: http://www.mysterysea.net (Review in Vital Weekly Terje Paulsen - Landform (self release) 3" CDR "Now unfortunately sold out is this micro-release micro-cdr album by Norwegian composer Paulsen but luckily for y'all the very kind Mr. Paulsen has made it available as an mp3 release via rainmusic.free.fr/. This really is something you should all be very happy about as it really is a damn fine slice of drone music. Paulsen has a good ear for a mix and Landform is soft and sensual without being cloying or over-produced. He has avoided the dark ambient pitfall and instead concerned himself with making amorphous music that is worth listening to repeatedly." ..Wonderful Wooden Reasons....
