  • Bio

..From Edinburgh, Susanna had a classical music background and has been writing music since she was 6. Introduced to the songwriting genre about 10 years ago she has been honing her often eclectic and experimental style weaving in a myriad genres to create a unique sound. After releasing her EP 'Best of Nothing Yet' in June 2008, Susanna focused primarily on the live 'experience', earning her a slot in the www.bluesbunny.com.. "Top Ten Gigs of the Year".. list both in 2008 and 2009. With Susanna no two shows will be the same. From audience sing-alongs of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' (for the benefit of her son) and emotional outpourings to pure rock, live multi-instrumental sampling and some ideas that maybe are just a little bizarre, Susanna is fast gaining critical acclaim as a performer and songwriter. .. .. ......Don't just believe us:...... .. ..for ..Experimentalista!.. at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2010:.... "... idiosyncratic and witty... exciting... pure joy... As cabaret defines itself by glamour and glitz, Experimentalista! is defiantly lo-fi, concentrating on the song-writing and the choreography and prizing good humour over polish. Gentle, friendly and approachable, this duo square the circle of radical and accessibility."...... **** The Skinny, August 2010...... .. .. for ..Experimentalista!.. at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2010:.... "a sensation", "superb - it made my eyebrows ache", "Absolutely fantastic!", "...brilliant. Quirky and funny and very entertaining.", "mesmerising" ...... ***** LoveFringe.com, August 2010...... .. "It's time to be impressed. Come to think of it, it has been a while since this Bluesbunny was impressed. Susanna MacDonald is from Edinburgh and she proved to be something of a treasure. In a world overflowing with earnest singer songwriters, she proved to be an intense and involving performer. Her songs had a sense of the dramatic mixed into them. She went from controlled emotions to wild outbursts of musical fury all in the same song. Even at her most restrained the middle class sensibilities of her songs of have an intelligence and poetry to them but it was her performance that sold it. She's a bit dangerous, this one. Make sure you find out why...There are only two goods thing to come out of Edinburgh - the last train to Glasgow and Susanna Macdonald."...... - www.bluesbunny.com, September 2008...... .. "A national treasure. She performs with all the dedication of a psychopathic Sunday School teacher. No one does light and shade like her (even if she is a bit scary)." ...... - www.bluesbunny.com, December 2009 "Top Ten Gigs of 2009"...... .. "...soaring, classically trained vocals...hypnotically haunting..."...... - Edinburgh Evening News, July 2008...... .. “This girl doesn’t give half-arsed performances. Tonight she plays ‘Graffiti’, and whilst this doesn’t quite reach the astonishing, psychological meltdown of ‘Buddha the Cyborg’, this is still arresting and compelling. The guitar is positively predatory - it sounds like it’s stalking the vocals down a dark alleyway. Creepy.”...... - Out Of The Bedroom, June 2008...... .. "...a velveteen throb in the lower register..."...... - The Decades, Dec 2008...... .. "The sort of thing Dido would be writing if she weren't rubbish"...... - London Student, Nov 2004......

Hey Susanna, how's things? We were just wondering if you fancy popping down to Pivo Pivo on the 15th to lend us your ears if you're in the vicinity? For £3 you shall recieve lovely folk songs and nightmarish tales of butterflies and cruel cities.

    Best wishes,
    Matthew.
