Bio
The Skillet Lickers are based in Drogheda, on the East Coast of Ireland, North of Dublin. They have played extensively in Ireland, England and Europe and specialise in Old-Time Country and Bluegrass Music. Their music is based on early string band music and classic bluegrass and their influences are Gid Tanner and the Skillet Lickers (from whom they take their name) The Carter Family, Bill Monroe, Charlie Poole, Flatt & Scruggs, The Stanley Bros and other groups from the golden age of Bluegrass in the late 1950’s. Jim Mac Ardle plays Guitar and Autoharp. His influences are Maybelle Carter, Riley Puckett and he is a devotee Jimmy Durante. He has carried out extensive research at no little expense to find the location and shape of the Lost Chord with no success. Mick Dunne plays mandolin and lives in a log cabin in Ballymakenny , just outside Drogheda. Dick McGarry plays 5 string and is available for precision engineering nixers provided they don’t interfere with his banjo playing or cruising (in a boat) on the Shannon. Tracks : Sail Away Ladies – A song from Uncle Dave Macon first recorded in the 1930’s . Termonfeckin Stomp – An original Autoharp Tune by Jim, written as he crossed over the hump-backed bridge. -
