Born in Watford, England, Sharon L. Carpenter dreamed of coming to New York City, and she made that dream a reality. The mixed race beauty arrived alone in the U.S. to obtain her BBA degree, graduating with top honors. After short stints interning at a record label and working for a magazine, Sharon soon found her calling in broadcast journalism. In this highly-competitive field, she has built a solid reputation and today is an award-winning reporter/host for Black Entertainment Television (BET) making history as the network’s first ever British talent.

Sharon Carpenter is best known for hosting BET’s daily news briefs, reporting and producing for the network’s hard-hitting specials and making appearances on the top-rated entertainment show 106 & Park. Whether she is participating in live coverage of monumental moments such as the election of America’s first Black President, exploring the aftermath of disasters like Hurricane Katrina or bringing to light the latest underground music trends, when Carpenter speaks, people both young and old listen.

Ms. Carpenter’s broadcasting experience actually began behind the camera. Her first job in news was as a field producer for UPN 9 News – an award - winning New York newscast (now known as My 9 News) but she quickly worked her way up to a producer position at BET Nightly News/CBS News.

On-air Sharon has also worked as a reporter for CBS MarketWatch - a top-rated financial news program and as a correspondent for Weekend Vibe - Vibe Magazine’s syndicated entertainment show.

Carpenter boasts a diverse and impressive list of interviews including media mogul Oprah Winfrey, “Star Wars” director George Lucas, rap superstar/entrepreneur Jay-Z, Hollywood actor Harrison Ford and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Carpenter has received two awards from the New York Association of Black Journalists for her work. She was recently featured as the “Vixen” in Vibe Magazine’s prestigious 2007 Juice issue that had President Barack Obama on the cover. Sharon has also been featured in numerous other publications including Right On and Trace magazines and London’s Evening Standard. She has graced the covers of Love and Life and NV magazines and the UK’s New Nation.

Ms. Carpenter resides in New York City and visits her native England when work and time permit.
