‘Strictly Piaf’ is the great new album of The Carmel Band. The 10 tracks on the album are highly original versions of songs formerly sung by the incomparable Edith Piaf, and some of these songs must have been hard to change, as well as to include their own style, as they are quite immutable. With no doubt Edith Piaf was an unique singer and writer, beyond compare.
Even more to point out, that The ...Camel Band has fulfilled an excellent job here. There is a rich variety of approaches through the whole album, which brings for the listener a new surprise with each track. I think The Carmel Band managed to arrange the songs in an own distinctive way; put them on their own stamp and character! The Autumn Leaves version sounds very poetic and La vie En Rose becomes a dreamy impressionistic rhapsody of the original. ‘Strictly Piaf’ is a great album and a pleasure to listen to. Let’s hope that we gonna see Carmel performing’ Strictly Piaf’ live on stage very soon!
