Bio
Sean Clancy is a composer born in Dublin in 1984. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Birmingham Conservatoire under the supervision of Joe Cutler and Howard Skempton, where his research deals with the ‘anxiety of influence’ and its manifestation in musical composition. He has completed a Bmus at University College Dublin, an Mmus at Kings College London, and studied in the Ecole Nationale de Musique, Aulnay Sous-Bois with Philippe Leroux. In addition, he has studied privately with Kevin O Connell. His music has been performed internationally by artists including Garth Knox, Orkest de ereprijs, Crash Ensemble, Fidelio Trio, Schubert ensemble, Darragh Morgan & Mary Dullea, Lontano, Decibel, Dublin Guitar Quartet, Duo Vita, Ensemble ICC, Ergodos Voices and The Curious Chamber Players, amongst others. His work has been featured at festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2005) The Printing house festival of New Music (2007), the York Spring Festival (2008), The Crash Ensemble’s Free State Series (2008), Schubert Ensemble's Chamber Music 2000 project (2009), the Young Composers Meeting, Apeldoorn (2010), and the Louis Andriessen Frontiers Plus Festival, Birmingham (2010). He has been broadcast on RTE lyric fm, BBC Radio 3, and the Web based station Global Soundtracks. Sean is a founding member of the Irish Composer’s Collective, a member of the Association of Irish Composers, and is represented by the Contemporary Music Centre, Ireland. -
