Welcome to our revamped MySpace site, the band appreciates you visiting. Schism, based in Australia, and part time London UK, originally formed in Canberra A.C.T. Australia. Together since 2004, Schism has been working to amalgamate a range of songs for their EP, "Perpetual Devotion", and heralding things to come with the release of the debut single, "Crystal Glass" in 2007. Schism was born from the need for a vehicle for song-writers Michael Peade (Lyricist) and Richard Johnstone (Guitarist) to get their music out there. As often is the case, the talents of the two songwriters came together purely by accident and a chance meeting, as Richard pushed to form a band that played only original material. After penning over 30 songs together, the time was right to record, perform and get the material out there. Founder of the band, Richard Johnstone's original intention was to use our bass player Stuart Johnson and drummer Shannon Jackson as session musicians,' explains Richard. Once we got the guys together we realised that we had a real rapport and respect for each others talents and the development of a band that would eventually tour just had to happen'. The three-piece band has brought together talent that brings out the best in musical abilities. Singer, songwriter and guitarist Richard Johnstone fronts Schism. Stuart Johnson plays bass guitar and vocal backup. Shannon Jackson is the man behind the rhythm. The bands experience is vast and wide. With Richard growing up and playing in bands in the tougher parts of London, he was heavily into the punk scene. Bands like the Sex Pistols, and XTC influenced me greatly, and when the weekends came I just wanted to get out there and play. Then I wanted to write, enthused, Richard. Shannon has played in bands, Broken Bows, Primitive Kool, Rock Zone and popular Australian band Next Of Kin. Stuart has played bass in bands, Little Yak and The Swallows. The bands music, with rich harmonies and a raw edge is evident as their debut album titled 'Perpetual Devotion' containing six tunes proves. Were a band trying to be a little different. We cut this EP in 4 days, from live sessions, and without the production mod cons and effects. We wanted a little rawness and we feel we captured it with the EP. Richard says, 'The fact that we have so many different sounds just shows how versatile we are and that we have a talented group of guys who are working together to create the best that we can. We don't sound like anyone else, and we believe Schism has it's own unique sound. Hope you enjoy Schism's tunes. And thanks for visiting us. New Music is coming SoOn...
