  • Bio

.. Roy Henderson is an Edinburgh-born musician, singer and songwriter. Having taken many roads in many directions over many years, he arrived home with a guitar, some song ideas and the aim of simply having his music heard by a wider audience. After several years on the local gigging circuit, Roy released the album "Confessional" in January 2008 and the follow-up "The Theory of the Road" in January 2009. Both albums are available on iTunes, Amazon or directly from the official website. Both have had frequent radio play on local radio. The new album, "Nobody's Fool" is scheduled for release in late March 2010. Roy continues to perform live all over Scotland as a highly respected solo performer .. Here's what some people have said................. "I really like your stuff. Talented fella you are" (Justin Currie).. "There's an element of self examination through the album, but not to the point that you feel like a voyeur for listening in. It's more that it's asking questions of both the writer and listener. It does so through a combination of folk, acoustic rock and country influences. Ultimately Mr Henderson lands an album he can take pride in" (Bluesbunny "Confessional" Review).. "There are many, many "songwriters" but very, very few who's songwriting is a CRAFT. Roy Henderson is one of that few" (Confessional Review).. "Prolific, ridiculously talented and almost revered in some parts of his native Edinburgh" (The Magazine review 2008).. "We don't call him Roy Henderson, we call him MISTER Roy Henderson" (BlackDiamondFM) .. "You made me cry during your set.....you should bottle whatever that is and sell it" (Edinburgh 2009, post gig chat) .. "Annoyingly good............." (Anonymous Comment on iTunes) .. "Real songs, real themes, great playing, wonderful voice" (Comments on "Theory of the Road" on myspace) .. "the best singer/songwriter in Edinburgh" (Stuart Mackay, The Macs).. Support acts aren't suppoed to get encores....this guy is obviously an exception....powerful stuff (The Review, Steve Forbert with Roy Henderson, June 2009) .. "I'll swap you one of my albums for one of yours" Colin Hay

Far From Home is beyond Brilliant, its an explanation of Our Times, and probably All Times, where We, as imperfect souls, fall prey to all the negative demons of this World, and thus wreck our Own Beauty ~ well done my Friend, I hold you in such Esteem ~ Marshall Holly

    How the hell are you?
Stoke that fire you hear! It's getting colder! Collecting wood is ok. It's the sawing bit that hurts! Hope you're scarf wearing!

Great to hear from you Roy!

And welcome back to yourspace then!

Hiding things in the oven, chimney and shed as friends are coming round!
    It's not good is it?

I wont be able to cook, light a fire or hide from the hangover that they bring!

Influences:

Influences abound...Edinburgh - my city and my home, my children, the woman who saved my life and supports me no matter what, my parents, my real friends, the world around me, the stuff that happens which I love and that which I loathe, the songs of Joni Mitchell, Ron Sexsmith and Neil Young, the voices of Paul Buchanan and Karine Polwart, the songs of Lennon and McCartney, Dylan and Tom Petty, Springsteen and Earle, the bizarre and downright strange things which I see almost every day, the passing years and laughter and tears, injustice and hardness of heart, people who aren't afraid to wear their hearts on their sleeves and express themselves, the great songwriters I have met actually as well as virtually and who have reminded me about the power of a song, people who create rather than imitate, every day another lesson learned, the joy of playing music with like-minded people from every background and every age..... .....and more songs and singers from just about every genre than I could even begin to list here.
