BIO RIK ROSSEELS : Music has always been Rik’s main inspiration. His father introduced him to jazz as soon as he could and gave him his first record when he was only four : The Dolphins by Stan Getz. Growing up, the house was filled with music, and his dad’s collection of over 7,000 LP records gave him the opportunity to absorb a huge variety of sounds, beats and vibes. He soon found a way to channel his musical energy by playing trumpet and drums at the age of seven. While in his teens, Rik met Liesje Sadonius, who at the time was the lead singer of Hooverphonic, one of Belgium’s major trip-hop exports. During that period, he was introduced to electronic music and started experimenting with samples, slowly creating his own sound in the process. He also entered a remix competition for Underworld that flew him to Japan and introduced him to the band and V2 records. This was the first of a number of key experiences that shaped Rik’s belief that music was his destiny. Liesje finally left Hooverphonic and has been collaborating with Rik ever since, culminating with the co-writing of Liesjes’ solo-project called ‘Suzanina,’ which will be released on Lakeshore Entertainment. In 2004, Rik formed a group in which he introduces a group of young jazz musicians he met in the Antwerp jazz scene. ‘Suite 406’ combines his love for jazz with his electronic influences and it brings an original mix of lounge, down-tempo nu-jazz and synth-sounds. This fresh sound won his band top prize at the Diesel-U-Music Awards in 2004. (see bio) Just last year, fate introduced Rik to a happy bunch of talented R&B artists who fell in love with his sound. The feeling was mutual, and their enthusiasm for working together has led to the creation of two albums in one year: ‘BBamoRR’ and ‘DKLO ft. BB,’ which will soon be released on Bubblebath Records. As the momentum continues, Rik has been remixing for well-known bands (like ‘So Bad’ by ‘Off the Record’), and re-recording some ‘Suzanina’ tracks with Napster in Los Angeles. Now, after years of successful musical creations and collaborations, he has been inspired to formalize his ability to bring talented people together in the name of entertainment. With the founding of ‘Bubblebath productions,’ which includes Bubblebath Records (label), Bubblebath Studios (production and recording studio), Bubblebath Graphics (websites, artwork, pictures for all BB artists) and Bubblebath Events (organizing concerts and parties with the BB flair).
