Puffinbillyunst's Interests
Music
Apollo 440, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Cocteau Twins, Editors, Elbow, Guillemots, Hard-Fi, Joy Division, The Killers, King Crimson, Luxuria, Magazine, Muse, My Bloody Valentine, National Health, Bill Nelson, New Order, Radiohead, Razorlight, Red Hot Chili Peppers, REM, The Smiths, Snow Patrol, U2, Van Der Graaf Generator, XTC ... but my Walkman has bits of everything from Pink Floyd to Bodyrox.
Films
You know, I think they're nearly all over-rated. I like some films directed by Gilliam, Kubrick,Coppola but how many sustain repeated viewing?
Television
Comedy is the only thing that usually makes me change channel (other than sport) - Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, Red Dwarf, Alan Partridge, that sort of thing; and topical news quizzes like Have I got News ... I quite like Dr Who and Life on Mars though.
Books
Favourite authors - Alan Garner, Alexander McCall Smith, Terry Pratchett, Ian Rankin, Peter Robinson, JRR Tolkien.
Heroes
If I had any, David Attenborough, Bill Oddie, John Peel, but I've met two of them (and can no longer meet the third) and they're quite ordinary really - we can all be heroes. How about Chico Mendes? He was an ordinary hero.
About me: Another of the OHHS alumni, which is why I'm here. One of the precious few who earned a BSc in Ecology at Loughborough - they were ahead of their time and then lost their nerve just before it became fashionable. Island-dweller. Author of a book on the Birds of Shetland. Belated and mildy adventurous traveller. Mad birder (aren't we all - birders being mad that is). Proud grandparent despite skipping a generation. Once a frustrated non-musician - now happy to listen; the man who first introduced Noko to an LP with John McGeoch on it. Long-distance follower of the Mighty Reds at Anfield. Educator. More of me can be found at www.aardnet.co.uk.
Who I'd like to meet: The man who sold the world - and I'd make him get it back.
