Bio
Hello,my name is Neil,i started playing banjo when iwas 23.Iwas at Liverpool Poly and i met a great banjo player called Paul Rodden from Buncrana .He sold me my first banjo for ten pound. We used to get drunk every night ,the more Paul drunk the better he could play. After leaving Liverpool i went to live in Newcastle upon Tyne, then i had a spell busking in France and Spain with my three songs,Cripple Creek,Old Joe Clark and Jessie James.I then went to live in Bath and with the help of Forbes,Marco and Lenny, just to mention a few,had a great time busking and the like.We formed a band called;Yon Canny Band;We also played with Bill Smarm and his Bunch Of Cowboys and an Irish band called Bungle Rye,consisting ov Paul Curran and Brian,Paul is a great singer and Brian is a great box player. On the streets of Bath we met Leon Hunt, who at the time could not play banjo and also Simon Fossey who is a fantastic player.I have lost touch with Simon but i see Lyon is one of the best banjo players in the world. While in Bath i met my future wife Molly and now have three children,Frances,Freddie and Nancy. We decided to leave Bath and moved to Macduff,Scotland and now have a lovely house over looking the Moray Firth.I have lived here now nine years and play with a band called Moonshinemadness, consisting of myself,Ronan Fitzsimons and John Marshall from Liverpool ,Ronan being fromTulamore.I have now gone selfemployed as a musican as i have been a Postman for twenty years but had to leave due to ill health and this seemed the best path to follow..I hope this has proved of some intrest to anybody out in the depths of beyond, all the best,Neil. -
