  • Dolores Park mini guitar hero, by Phil Eil

For those of you who declined invitations to Dolores Park on Saturday: Don't worry, you didn't miss much. It was the usual scene: young people drinking Tecate, dogs chasing Frisbees, an eight-year-old guitar prodigy playing Creedence covers.

What's that? There isn't usually a third-grader playing to throngs of fans? I see. OK, then. Maybe you did miss something. Here's what happened:

At around 6 p.m., I was lounging on the grass near the center walkway, talking with a friend, when I heard the unmistakable guitar intro to "Suzie Q." But then, instead of a grown-up Fogerty-wannabe belting out the lyrics, I heard a tiny, determined voice wailing, "Oh, Suzie Q, baby I love you…" Curious to see who was singing, I shuffled toward the source of the music. By the tennis courts, I found a raucous crowd of hipsters whistling and hooting around a kid with an electric guitar and a microphone. Behind him, sitting on an amp, there was an older guy playing back-up guitar. I sat down and stayed mesmerized for the next 45 minutes.
The kid, Lucciano Pizzichini (I learned from his business card, taken from a stack next to his tip jar), was a miniature rock star. He not only had the look (shaggy hair, aviators, jeans, and Chuck Taylors), he knew exactly how to work the crowd. During his set of classic rock staples -- "Samba Pa Ti" by Santana, "When the House is a Rockin' Don't Come A' Knockin'" by Stevie Ray Vaughn, "Proud Mary" by Creedence Clearwater Revival -- he strutted up and down the hill, playing scorching solos and dropping to his knees a la Jimi Hendrix. I'm sure everyone in attendance – by the end of the show there were over 100 people – would agree, you haven't lived until you've seen an eight-year old sing, "Left a good job in the city/ workin' for the man every night and day."

If Pizzichini, the Argentinian guitar prodigy, ever hits it big (which I'm sure he will, someday), I'll be able to say that I saw him play waaay back in 2008 in Dolores Park. I'll grin and think back, misty-eyed, to that unforgettable performance that left more than a few people, including myself, wondering, "Is this some sort of FOX special? Am I hallucinating? Should I call Child Services?"

Then I'll lie and say that it was actually me, who, when Lucchiano was finished playing, yelled, "Somebody get that kid an ice cream!"
  • Un pequeño gran talento, by El Nuevo Herald

    SANDRA PALACIOS
    Especial/El Nuevo Herald

  • Band of the hour: Lucciano Pizzichini, by miami.com

    By Vanessa Garcia

Take a back seat Amadeus, because Lucchy's filling your shoes. Lucchy, short for Lucciano Pizzichini, came straight from Buenos Aires to Miami at 11 months, and now, at the tender age of seven, he's already been invited to play with the likes of Juanes and Santana, and is sponsored by Gibson Guitars. Ask him how he likes being famous and he responds: "Mucho!"

Full of joy and the energy, Lucchy is also precocious. His father taught him everything he knows, but he says he likes to play because "music is, well, quite frankly, an art." A musician himself, Adrian Pizzichini used to play with his band Kayak Man until he discovered that he and his son made a good team.

"We were in southwest Miami one day at a restaurant, after taking his mom to the dentist, and the restaurant had an empty stage, so we got onto the stage and started playing, and people loved it! People really loved it!" says Pizzichini. So they started playing on Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive, two street musicians gathering a crowd, until their act caught like wildfire and they started getting calls from TV and radio shows: PBS, Sabado Gigante, just to name a couple. And the calls keep coming.

Together, the father-and-son team practice two hours every day and dance around to classic rock tunes like Susy Q and I'm Free. Their band also consists of Lucchy's band, which also includes Sebastian Acosta (drums) and Sebastian de La Calle (bass).

Ask Lucchy what he wants to be when he grows up and he tells you: "A rock star." He already is. He also goes to elementary school and loves ice cream.

    Lucchy and co. play at Soya e Pomodoro most Fridays starting at 8 p.m., and occasionally at The Place of Miami, 833 SW 29th Ave., Little Havana;

It used to be that 7-year-old Argentinean Lucciano Pizzichini slept on the tables at the venues where dad Adrian jammed out funky rock-reggae tunes with local band Kayakman. That all changed after word got out that this kid was a show-stealer, and we're not talkin' "Old MacDonald." A few tight-ass moms cover their children's ears when Lucchy belts out hippie-rock classics like the Beatles' "Why Don't We Do It in the Road?" but resistance is futile. There's something irresistible about a kid who takes over the stage with a why-the-hell-you-look-so-shocked? attitude, and, man, can he play the guitar. Lucchy's moved up the local alt-rock scene so fast that his dad had to dump the Kayak boys to become his manager.
