A NEW Southampton rapper is heading for the charts.
Lucan Mills, aka L Rhymez, beat thousands of rappers from across the UK in a national music channel competition to have a song recorded.
The Southampton Solent University student won with his self-penned song Ten Years in front of judges in London last March.
He will have his winning rap song re-recorded with the help of So Solid maestro Shabz with a fancy music video thrown in for good measure.
Lucan, 18, is set to release his debut album Coming of Age in the next six weeks after bagging a record deal with Polydor.
Lucan, of Newcombe Road, who has been rapping for ten years, said: "It was really nerve racking performing in front of the judges. But when they said I had won it really hit home.
"I don't rap about guns or violence. I go against all that rubbish, as there's no point in it. I have rapped about my Nan dying and my mum and dad splitting up and love songs."

Meet 18 year old Lucan Mills aka L-Rhymez, the winner of the Channel U search for fresh new talent a competition in which Channel U recieved literally thousands of entrants.
L-Rhymez wowed the audience last nite with a storming rendition of his own track " Ten years " which is soon to be re-recorded with So solid maestro Shabz producing.
Southampton native L-Rhymez has been performing for ten years in various clubs in his hometown and even has a gig coming up with Tony Yayo, Young Buck and Lloyd Banks of G-Unit.Last nites Channel U victory marks his live debut in our nations capital. He cites Jay-Z as his biggest musical inspiration as well as the UK's own Dappy of NDubz fame who was a big supporter of our winner and even hinted at a possible future collaboration.
L-Rhymez says of his victory "Its been a long time coming , its such an amazing opportunity, i feel like this is the start. Its on it's way up"

Deciding to stay around the area to complete the album i have managed to get in touch with a guy called Alex Mcann who works with the radio and Newspapers in Hampshire to get me some airplay......

My name is Lucan Mills and Im eighteen years old, iv'e been rapping since I was eight hence the track "10 years". I live in Southampton and write all my own lyrics. Iv'e got eight mixtapes and I am working on a the Up and Coming Mixtape at the moment due for release soon. I am currently working with producers from all over Paris and America including Dj wamba, Dj Exit, Rhy, and Stryke. Including some hot UK producers including Hi Jack, and Lebbex. I recently did a contract with Channel U and Hype city following my win on the New talent Channel U Blow competition. and have now started my own label and entertainment company. My videos are being released in due course including the debut album "Coming of age"
The track Chill wit Rhy is a song that I collaborated with my man Rhymez over in Illinois, U.S.A. We hooked up on line and produced the track to reach out over the U.S and the U.K. So many thanks to Rhy for making that possible.
I have also been looking at Alizay.co.uk for the new unsigned concert coming up in London soon so that should be good to get involved with.
