NO HIPPY SOUL TRAIN By: Katie Daniels Roth c 1980 He borrowed my guitar and began to stretch the strings. I just walked inside Lucy's Lake McAlester Store to get some things. As the boys tried to play with him more flustered they became. Finally the dogs began to howl and I heard Coot Shaffer " say: Chorus "We don't allow no white hippy soul trains running through Piccolo Palace, boy. Why don't you be on your way? Just get on your way." We played and reminesed far into the night. CP who lived in one of Lucy's cabins there made mulligan stew. We all ate and did all the usual things we always do. Some sat and drank beer inside by the water cooler, on couches against the wall. They'd tell Lucy stories 10' tall. Chorus Now and then between songs and sips, we'd have to take a trip, "to the Cherokee Strip." That was the outdoor one seater. We'd trip and sip. Those days never to be had again with my old friends. But I still hear Coot Shaffer say: Chorus We'd go to ski on the lake each Sunday. One night my ex Ed Roth, lil brother Henry Daniels and our sons John and Kirk who were teenagers stayed awhile outside. They played music and neighbors around came and sat and listened. This actually happened. Must have been late '70s or early '80s. We moved to NC in '81 The Thomas kids, Mike, Kim, and Natalie have a new Lucy's 2 I learned on Facebook. Just had a big write up in a magazine. They serve food, etc. Will try to copy this to Facebook. Should stir a lot of good memories for people all around that area.
