Bio
Kath Reade has a passionate drive to write and perform her songs, with a great guitar style that perfectly suits her stunning voice. Those who have seen her perform are deeply impressed by her songs, full of insight, tenderness, and wit, with an immediacy that stays in the heart and mind. Her subjects range from stone circles, her love of Ireland and Scottish islands, through to friendship, the hurricane Katrina, and a celebration of escaping the factory for a summer holiday, to name but a few. The impact of her live performance, and her winning way with an audience have won her a huge respect. Kath won the songwriting award at Saltburn folk festival, with 'A Perfect Autumn Day' from her 'Songs to be Sung' CD. It featured the excellent guitar of Gordon Tyrrall. Her next CD was 'Kingfisher Blue', in collaboration with Rob Van Sante from 'The Battlefield Band', featuring BBC folk award winning fiddle player Tom McConville and son Shaun Reade on keyboards. The fine acapella group 'Wenchall' regularly performed Kath's songs and recorded her song 'The Stone Circle'. Stirrings magazine (Yorkshire) have dubbed Kath "...a songbird". Kath plays four guitars - a special edition handmade Gibson J-200 classic with a phenomenal sound, a Takamine, her trusty Guild, and a handmade Spanish guitar from Valencia. Kath's influences are many and varied from American 1960s folk, Joan Baez, Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, the blues of Bessie Smith, to Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention, Nic Jones, to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Since living in Lancashire for many years she cites the songs of the Oldham Tinkers and traditional performers Carthy/Swarbrick. She is currently working on her third album launching in June 2010. Her producer is multi-talented David P Crickmore of 'The Durbervilles', who have a weekly folk/roots show on BBC Radio Leeds on Sunday evenings. As well as various Durbervilles, other well known friends are to feature on the album. Damien Barber has already been into the studio to guest on concertina and vocals. His band 'The Demon Barbers have a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for 'Best Live Act' while Damien has been nominated as "Best Duo" in collaboration with Mike Wilson. Undoubtedly one of Kath Reade's qualities when performing live is her sense of humour and fun. The audience is important to her - a collection of individuals who matter, and many have remarked on how they felt Kath was talking and singing just for them. Kath loves to play live gigs and would welcome opportunities to perform at clubs, festivals, concerts, events...... -

wonderful songwriter - stunning voice - fab guitar
Yep, that sums it up nicely!
It was great to hear you at Cowling, and thanks for the new CD.
For me, the standout track by far was You Know Me. Not that the other songs aren't good, because they are, but this one really connected and I have been playing this a lot both on the CD player and in my head! What a brilliant song it is.
Hope to catch you again soon!
Cheers
