“I'm getting older, I’m getting weirder. I think all of you are on to me… One way or another.” .... The music scene is definitely onto Josh Canova. A natural, self-taught talent, his deep, soulful lyrics trigger a musical truth when he openly expresses his vulnerability and unintentionally demands that listeners explore theirs. He is an emerging musical powerhouse, who instinctively and innovatively couples lyrics with raw, stripped down tracks reminiscent of true down home Americana in such a way that listeners are naturally drawn into a kaleidoscope of the human experience. .... Raised in Washington State, Canova began his auspicious music career by observing his sister’s piano lessons. When the room cleared and they keys settled, he perched himself on the bench and replayed what his sister had been learning - Completely by ear. After discovering LPs hidden in old rustic cabinets that contained the likes of Mel Torme, The Monkees, Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs; Mozart and the ivories were replaced by radio hits and an acoustic guitar. He knew music was a part of him, but it wasn’t until he was “transformed” by Led Zeppelin’s “House of the Holy” and the lyrics of Bob Dylan, that he realized it was part of his DNA. .... He carried his passion for music with him through college and down the coast to Los Angeles, where after starting his own successful production company, he felt something was missing and he knew what it was. He returned home to the place his mind was free to wander – In a quiet room with his acoustic guitar on his lap. Before the dust cleared, he had written his first song and was forever sucked into the vortex of songwriting. His maiden release, Common Divide, was a self-described effortless reflection on his childhood. Produced by film and TV composer Bill White Acre (sponsored for life by Yamaha), Common Divide was described by LA Times music critic Richard Thomas as “… a deep swell of feeling, drawing on both the cinematic grace of Pink Floyd and the acoustic simplicity of Simon and Garfunkel.” And he was right. Tracks from Common Divide were quickly snapped up and used in the hit series’ “One Tree Hill” and “Alias.” .... Feeling compelled to explore a different side of himself and his music; he penned his sophomore follow up, Automatic, which was also featured on “One Tree Hill.” Music reviewer and author Matthew Greenwald wrote: “Orchestral in construction, scope and execution… Canova isn’t just writing songs, he’s writing records – A lost art these days and in both cases, he delivers.” Solo acoustic gigs slowly gave way to performances backed by a band at gigs all over the country as well as Hollywood staples like The Viper Room, House of Blues, The Mint and Club Lingerie, where audiences were captivated by his inviting intimate rapport backed by a confident swagger. .... After many nights spent with old vinyl Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash albums, Josh Canova began writing Adios, his most recent release, which reunites him with producer Bill White Acre. A haunting compilation of ten songs about saying good-bye in ten different ways, Adios is already receiving attention. Described by LA Music Blog as “… dusty old cowboy boots for your ear,” Adios is a simple, breathtaking return to his roots and homage to the Texas outlaws he feels akin to. Of Adios, Georgia RPS writes, "Here's the best Josh Canova to date. The melt-y vocals and take a ride with me songwriting in Adios feels honest, rabble-rousing, matter of fact, and sweetly laid back. He can tell a compelling story… A little Hoyt Axton, John Prine, and Merle Haggard, I think Josh Canova is my new favorite cowboy prophet." Adds CD Baby: “If Johnny Cash, Chris Isaak and Roy Orbison played with Magnet, it might sound like this. Get on a train or in a convertible and head for the open road. Just turn it up.” .... It’s the love of writing that keeps Canova grounded and going, despite getting older and weirder. “The best songs come when I’m in the right state of mind and I have the common sense to get out of the way and let them flow through me.” As he prepares to tour his new album and begins working on a fourth release, his track record is a good indicator to fans that he’ll be doing just that. With an ever-increasing fan base and featured track placements, the music scene is onto him… One way or another. ...... .. ...... .... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .... .. .. .. .. .......... .. ..
