IWF Awareness Day - 24 October 2008 Click here read the 2008 IWF Awareness Day press release: http://www.iwf.org.uk/media/news.241.htm The aim of IWF Awareness Day is to reach out to the UK’s vast online population to publicise the existence of our ‘Hotline’ so all UK internet users know what to do if they inadvertently stumble across online images of children being sexually abused and let them know that IWF is dedicated to getting potentially illegal online content removed. We are hoping for a large online presence on this day and are asking our 80+ members (internet service providers, mobile operators, search providers, content service providers and others) and our other stakeholders (children’s charities, NGOs and government departments) to prominently feature IWF advertising and information on their websites and other communications channels.

We presented our 2007 Annual Report during a reception at the European Parliament in Brussels in April 2008 to an audience of Members of the European Parliament (MEP), representatives of the European Commission and other
relevant international specialists and policymakers. UK MEP, Jonathan Evans, kindly hosted the reception on our behalf to help raise awareness of the IWF model and the international partnership of Hotlines amongst this key international audience. We were honoured that Mrs Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Information Society and Media, addressed the reception with a keynote speech welcoming the ongoing success of the IWF. Commissioner Reding commended the IWF on stepping up to the mark at an international level, particularly our effective self-regulatory approach and successful engagement with the online sector. She heralded the IWF as a front runner in combating child sexual abuse online, praised INHOPE’s excellent network of Hotlines and said she hoped IWF’s experience will help to promote similar success around the world. The reception was an oppertunity to meet many influential parliamentarians with an interest in Hotlines' areas of work.

2007 IWF Awareness Day
Our industry members and stakeholders provided fantastic support of the first IWF Awareness Day on 24 October 2007 by running adverts on their websites and intranets and other communications channels, and by emailing their customers
and staff with information about our work.
The media coverage we received for the day was also very impressive with almost 300 articles, including 70 radio and TV broadcast features – regional, national and international. Our website statistics show we had a 320% increase in visitors on Awareness Day and the day after. We would not have been able to generate such impressive interest and awareness of our work without the help of our members and stakeholders and we are very grateful for their support.

IWF Ten Year Anniversary Roadshow

The conferences were designed to coincide with our first major public-facing awareness activity which involved an integrated campaign of nationwide advertising, national and international PR, education and new literature. The conferences were launched with an event at Westminster’s Central Hall and we were delighted to welcome Home Office Minister, Vernon Coaker MP, to deliver a keynote address to around 200 delegates and members of the media.
