A RAPPER who was caught dealing cocaine outside Dungavel Detention
Centre, near Strathaven, has been jailed for almost three years.
Adnan Ahmed, also know as Hydro, was caught dealing the class-A drug,
and cannabis, outside the facility in April last year.
Later, when cops searched the home he shares with his mother in
Lynnhurst, Uddingston, two stun guns were found.
The 29-year-old admitted drug-dealing, as well two firearms charges when
he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court earlier this year.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of being concerned in the supply of
cocaine at the Dungavel Detention Centre on April 25, 2009.
He also admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis, a class-B
substance, on the same date.
He also pleaded guilty to possessing the two stun guns at his home
address without the appropriate firearms certificate, and another charge
of owning the illegal weapons without the knowledge of the Secretary of
State.
However, his not guilty plea to possessing diazepam and making threats
to police constable Graham Lannigan was accepted by the Crown.
Fiscal depute John Penman told the court police received reports around
8pm that day of a man behaving suspiciously in the detention centre’s
car park.
Officers attended and saw the accused and another man standing next to a
car.
“They approached the men and informed them they were being detained
under the Misuse of Drugs Act,” said Mr Penman.
During a search of the car police found a black holdall containing five
wraps of a white substance which later proved positive for cocaine and
other items.
Ahmed told officers: “We are holding the drugs for a gangster in
Glasgow.”
A search warrant was obtained for Adnan’s home and during a search items
found included £1,770 in cash, two prohibited stun guns and digital
scales.
Cannabis, valued between £3,000 and £4,000, and cocaine, “remnants of a
four-and-a-half-ounce deal” with a street value of £3,500, were also
found in his home.
The fiscal depute said he was seeking forfeiture of the cash. Ahmed, Mr
Penman added, said £1,610 of the cash had come from his mother.
Defence solicitor Urfan Dar argued that a custodial sentence would
merely give Ahmed “kudos” within certain sections of the hip-hop
industry.
However, Sheriff Vincent Smith sentenced the rapper to a total of 35
months’ imprisonment.
He also ordered to forfeiture of a sum of cash found in the accused’s
home, as well as the destruction of the two weapons found in the home.
Before being charged with drug-dealing, Ahmed, under his pseudonym
Hydro, recorded a track with hip-hop superstar Busta Rhymes, which was
also produced Will Smith, 50 Cent, and Jay Z.
He also worked with world-renowned label, Def Jam.
