  • Stillness At The Speed Of Light

A unique collaboration between icon, Grace Jones, and groundbreaking light artist, Chris Levine, is to be shown to the public for the first time at The Vinyl Factory Gallery in Poland Street, London. These sensational portraits will go on show from 30 April until 14 May 2010.

Chris Levine is a unique artist with a rare sensibility for the use of light. Renowned for his historic 3D and still images of HRH Queen Elizabeth II, he has now gone on to create a series of stunning 3D portraits of legend Grace Jones. Stillness at the Speed of Light will showcase the extraordinary alchemy between this iconic figure and the progressive artist.

A highlight of the exhibition will be a statement; a 3D image of Grace with her eyes shut, one of several ethereal, sensory portraits some of which are lit by laser. Grace’s great gift in identifying zeitgeist artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Jean Paul Goude and Eiko Ishioka, continues with this new and exciting collaboration with Chris Levine, whilst demonstrating an evolution in portraiture.

This exceptional show will also be used to launch Grace’s new video Love you to life, which Chris Levine directed.

Grace Jones and Chris Levine were introduced by Philip Treacy, who was art directing Grace’s first live band show in over a decade at the Royal Festival Hall in 2008. The inventive collaboration between these two highly original, creative characters blossomed, and Jones soon asked Levine to create some original laser work for her tour.  The results were breathtaking. Audiences were left stunned as a high-beam laser shone directly onto Grace’s Swarovski crystal bowler hat designed by Philip, showering the entire audience in shards of light.  Chris went on to shoot Grace’ portraits in 3D and co-directing the video for her forthcoming single ‘love you to life’.

Although probably best known for his stunning 3D portraits of iconic figures, Levine is also involved in major light installation projects and has created work for some of the most dynamic creative brands and institutions and collaborated with some of the worlds leading photographers and fashion designers.

Based in Poland Street, London W1, The Vinyl Factory Soho gallery was chosen as the perfect location to show this innovative work.  The Vinyl Factory is an independent British company that is pioneering a new fusion of music and art. Owners of the century-old former EMI vinyl pressing plant in Hayes, The Vinyl Factory is the world-leader in creating premium music and art editions, having done so with Damon Albarn, Pet Shop Boys, Massive Attack, Air and more, as well as playing curator and host to numerous high-profile music/art exhibitions in its central London gallery space, including showcases for Island Records, Universal Music and XL Recordings. The Vinyl Factory Berlin, a new art and music venue, located in the old Communist Party headquarters in Mitte, is due to open in April 2010.

Grace Jones – Love You To Life

The stunning new single taken from her current album Hurricane.

    Forthcoming on Wall Of Sound

Following the live thrill of Grace Jones in January, who performed across the UK with the aptly named ‘Hurricane’ tour, Wall Of Sound announce the forthcoming release of ‘Love You To Life’ due March 30th 2009, the second single to be taken from Jones’ masterpiece record, ‘Hurricane’. ‘Love You To Life’ continues the autobiographical nature of ‘Hurricane’ with its moody lyricism and reggae tint.

Over the past 9 months, the thirst for Ms Jones has not wavered; show after show, her high octane and dramatic performances have been received across the board with 4 and 5 star reviews. The ageless diva never fails to impress.

As the Independent observed, they were ‘Blown away by amazing Grace’. As the Daily Telegraph stated – ‘It was about Jones alchemy which delivered flashing moments of sensory delight: fleeting, powerful and unique’., The London Lite confirmed how ‘it wasn’t a concert so much as theatre and we weren’t her audience so much as her subjects’.

This year, Grace is expected to headline various Festivals across the UK and Europe; more releases are due from the Hurricane project, along with some new headline dates.

‘Love You To Life’ is available on 12inch vinyl and digitally, with remixes to be announced shortly.
