EDWARD II / FOR ONE YEAR ONLY / Acclaimed Folk Roots act Edward II launch their 2009 ‘for one year only’ reform at London’s Cargo on 4th February / After a 10-year absence demand for legendary folk roots act Edward II’s return has been so huge they will reform for selected dates through ’09 and are launching the years activities with a performance at London’s very own Cargo on Wednesday 4th February. The reunification marks the tenth anniversary of their final ‘sell out’ gig at DeMontfort Hall, Leicester on 19th November 1999. / The group began its early life as ‘Edward The Second and the Red Hot Polkas’ after forming in Cheltenham in 1984. They Signed to Cooking Vinyl and released two albums (Polkasteady and 2 Step to Heaven). They then moved to the Pure Bliss Label with Pete Lawrence (Cooking Vinyl, Big Chill) and released the highly acclaimed album ‘Wicked Men’ in 1991. / After a short spell signed to the ‘Internal Affairs’ label (part of the Zomba Group) the group set up their own label and released 3 more albums (Zest - 1996, This Way Up - 1997 and Live at Cropredy - 1998). This period proved to be the most fruitful and the band toured the world whilst notching some 200+ shows per year / The group split in 1999 as the various members decided to pursue their own projects. / The 2009 tour will see the full line up return for selected festivals and venues / Edward II perform at Cargo,83, Rivington St, London, EC2A 3AY on Wednesday 4th February 7pm-1am. / FOR ONE YEAR ONLY.
