The star of the show is the beer line-up! There is a fine variety of Dark Star beers on show: here is a selection...
Vocals: Hophead (3.8%ABV)
Guitar: Sunburst (5.00% ABV)
Bass: Dark Star Original (4.8%ABV)
Drums: Winter Meltdown (bloody strong!)
Plus Roy, Pat, some very friendly bar staff, Kitty the dog, Attila (when he's not on tour or in the Evening Star) a very fine bar billiards table - and you, if you like good beer and music!
Influences
Real ale, punk rock, lots of other kinds of music (but not James Blunt or Coldplay!) Brighton & Hove Albion FC, more real ale, even more real ale..and by then you're UNDER the influence!
Sounds Like
Punk/rock/reggae/ska/dub/acoustic/lots of things (apart from the aforementioned Coldplay and James Blunt)
I’m a pub on the coast road just east of Shoreham town centre, with a fine rock’n’roll history spanning more than 30 years (Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson dropped in for an urban legend of a jam in the 70s, for instance)
I’ve just been taken over by the award winning Dark Star Brewing Company, who brew the finest real ale on the planet. I’m currently being refurbished - my new Wellington Boot sign is now proudly hanging in its rightful place outside - you won’t miss it. So I’m about as happy as a pub can be!
My innkeeper is Roy Chuter, co-founder of the legendary Glastonwick Beer, Music, Poetry and More Beer Festival, which takes place a mile or so away, and this MySpace page is run by Roy’s friend and local (a walk with Oddball the dog along the seafront) poet/musician Attila the Stockbroker, also co-founder of the Glastonwick Beer Festival - with help from Lawrie, a legendary local! Roy and Attila organise the gigs, which take place around eight times a month.
On Friday nights there’s often a popular local rock band who may or may not play covers. Apart from that, when there’s a gig (any day of the week is possible - check the list) you will mainly hear original material which can come from any part of the musical spectrum as long as it’s interesting.....
There is free admission at nearly all gigs, apart from a very few special ones, though you may be asked for a voluntary donation on occasions if it’s a fundraiser or the musicians have travelled a long way. And from noon to closing time every night you can drink wonderful beer: a selection from the Dark Star Brewery plus fine guest ales from all over the country. Dark Star HOPHEAD is on permanently.
Come and try some!
