deVries are a New York dreamgaze band fronted by Travis DeVries of Seattle’s The Turn-ons. Jangles, textures and drones float above haunting vocals in deVries’ Stone Roses and Ride-inflected pop. Legendary producer Kramer (Galaxie 500, Low, Suf-jan Stevens) declared their LP Death to God “fucking genius” and “amazing.”
Travis formed deVries in the wake of the success of The Turn-ons, whom Spin listed as one of its “100 Greatest Bands You (Probably) Never Heard.” The Turn-ons played sold-out shows with The Strokes and Interpol and were touted by R.E.M.’s Peter Buck as his “favorite new Seattle band” [Q]. Relocating to New York, Travis joined forces with guitarists Sean Gibbons and Martin Glazier, bassist Johnny Lancia and drummer Jeremy Sampson. In 2009 deVries released Death to God on Noise on Noise to widespread critical acclaim. The Deli called it “a fine shoegaze-pop record that kept us involved from the first to the last fuzzy guitar chord,” and Incendiary proclaimed it “possibly the greatest Manchester album never to have been made in Manchester.”
Energized by the keen response to Death to God, the band are eager to record more new material in the near future. They look forward to playing more shows in New York and to promoting new upcoming releases.

"...a fine shoegaze-pop record that kept us involved from the first to the last fuzzy guitar chord. DeVries’s songs create an original musical universe while giving a lingering impression that they have always existed." - Claire-Marie Le Bihan, the deli, NYC
"Death to God is possibly the greatest Manchester album never to have been made in Manchester. a beautiful piece of work. Yes it sounds like it was recorded under a rain cloud but it’ll entertain you from start to finish. Simple. Precise. Haunting. Special. Death to God is a must have for all of those who spend more time looking at their shoes than should be considered healthy. Don’t miss it." - Damian Leslie, Incendiary Magazine
"Sometimes love is instantaneous. This is one of those times. Death To God is a feast of dreamy pop and sparkling guitars. ...there's no question that deVries has the potential to explode onto the New York scene pretty rapidly with the right exposure." - Jonny Leather
"It’s accomplished and beautiful and sincere. In a world of throwaway and superficial pop, it’s a rare treat to find an album like this one that isn’t embarrassing for the artist or the listener. The ready cynic, expecting a vanity piece, is likely to have his or her expectations turned inside out." - David Smith, Adequacy.net
"'Death to God' is Brilliant...the melancholy feel of the album is balanced perfectly by well-placed orchestration and catchy guitar riffs, giving the album real depth and diversity." - Alex Aaron, The Silver Tongue
"an impressive new band... DeVries and their warm crafted sound is something well worth making an effort to track down." - April 25th, The Organ, UK
"DEATH TO GOD is a terrific record...far too good to be cast aside. ...this band is way too good to go this unnoticed so give DEATH TO GOD a spin an prepare to be blown away." - Dagger.com, 12.21.09
"...still into the dreamier side of the spectrum, whispering a musical language best enjoyed by fans of the Church, Yo La Tengo, any shoe-gaze band you'd care to adore and the Jesus & Mary Chain" 7/10 stars - A. Watt, Blurt Magazine
