Critical Mass Glasgow's Blog

There was 11 of us so it was less a critical mass and more a get in the road. Still, we took up two lanes down the Clydeside and caused a critical mass of cars to backup. Of course, with me having the trailer I was at the back getting all the abuse. :-) But I've heard much worse from hostile teenagers so I was cool with that. What I didn't enjoy though was the aggressive and dangerous overtaking into the lanes of oncoming traffic and deliberate manouevres to split the group and cut us up. It's funny how you get all the waves and positive toot-tooting from people coming in the opposite direction, but all the aggressive honking and shouting at the back of you. A car passenger threw a can of beer at me as he was overtaking, which I managed to dodge. I mean, ffs, one Friday of the month in one part of town and they're going berserk cos they have to slow down for 5 minutes. Why don't they get out their cars and shout at some traffic lights? We definitely need to double the numbers to have a safer mass so please join us. That said, it was still safer and more fun than cycling on your own in town and I'd do it every week if i could. :-)
Violence at Seattle's cm - perhaps surrounding a car, whatever the driver's behaviour, isn't worth considering -

Get Yer Kit Aff
After having a great time on the naked (well semi-naked) bike ride in Edinburgh last week I decided to make more of an effort to attend the critical mass rides in my hometown. To my surprise, I found out that there are only about a dozen people attending the CM rides now in each of Glasgow and Edinburgh and that's not enough for a safe and enjoyable mass! I also found out that there was no Myspace page for CM Glasgow (or Edinburgh or anywhere in Scotland for that matter) so decided to join Myspace for the sole reason of setting up this page in an attempt to boost the numbers. So if you can make it on the last Friday of every month, 5.30pm, George Square, for a bicycle party, it would be great to see you there. This month's theme is 'Get Yer Kit Aff' in the (vain) hope that the sun might shine. And, weather-depending, we'll either go t'pub eftir, or lie in the park daen whitever we like.
