About Cokxpon: The Cokxpon Ambient Society was born in 1999 with the purpose of gathering young, communal and spiritual artists together, and to organize cultural, musical and environmentalist events where promoters, participants and the audience can function as a community with the background of the Spirit Foundation. The word COKXPON is from a fantasy world called Na'Conxypan conceived by painter, writer Lajos Gulacsy (1882-1932), a fictitious patisserie, bar, motel. To enrich the landscapes he envisioned, Gulacsy would often complement his work with stories considered to be written renditions of his art - phantasms of words transforming, as if they were made of paint, into shades, shapes, scents and sighs..... AMBIENT means mood and sourroundings. Brian Eno's 1978 album Music for Airports pioneered a new experimental genre, focusing purely on atmosphere. Ambient has influenced many musical genres and denotes all other art forms, from dance through architecture to film, which intend to affect the audience purely through emotions, bypassing rational thought. With COKXPON AMBIENT we follow the purpose of chill-out rooms, our organisation designs a fictitious space where music, theatre, dance, fine arts, visuals and the environment are present in unison. It aims to present not just a performance, but to offer a collective spiritual experience to the participants and the audience; to affect our bodies, our minds and our souls. Our flagship event is the Cokxpon Ambient Garden & Tent at the Sziget Festival every year. On a smaller scale, we're present in Almassy Cultural House, Trafo and other venues with our eventually club nights and occasional festivals. The Socety opened its own cultural centre, the Cokxpon Cafe Theater in downtown Budapest in June 2007. The centre is a meeting point of Hungarian and international contemporary artists and their audience within the framework of a complex: multicultural cafe, teahouse, concert place, creative workshop & music studio for dance, music, lifestyle rehearsals, workshops and recordings. The crew's Cokxpon Ambient Service is a teahouse, enterieur design & programme service, available for events, meetings and parties to recreate our unique atmosphere.
